We are here on the Presqu’Ile
Guérandaise,
a peninsula between the mouths of the rivers Loire and Vilaine. Our holiday
cottage is in the community of St. Molf, 27 km northwest of St
Nazaire, 15km
north of the chic seaside resort of La Baule. The village has 1700 inhabitants
with all the small hamlets around, in one of which we live, called Pen d´hué,
with about 40 inhabitants. It is very, very quiet. The road ends not far behind
our house, so there is no through traffic.

In a radius of about 6 to 10 km you can
find the most beautiful beaches of southern Brittany, long sandy beaches
separated by rocky coves. One can take part in all kinds of water sports in Quimiac
and Piriac (6km) and in the fishing village of
La Turballe. A favorite
goal for walkers and cyclists are the salt fields of Guérande and Mesquer or
the freshwater moorland Brière. Beach promenade, smart street cafes and
boutiques are in La Baule or Le
Croisic. It is not far, but those who have had
enough of tourist hubbub, would probably rather relax and enjoy the peace with
us at Pen d’hué.
It’s almost 3km to St. Molf, which one
can easily cycle, where there is a baker, butcher and grocer. The baker also
comes twice a week with a small van. The next large supermarket is in Guérande,
about five minutes drive from here. There are markets in all the villages mainly
in the summer.
Guérande
is a very beautiful medieval
town, a center for trading in salt. On the peninsula, sea salt is harvested,
we ourselves are Paludiers – salt farmers and we will gently show our work to
the guests who are interested.
